The beginning of Allmond Printing

Our Story

On his 26th birthday (Sept. 1, 1957), Tom Allmond headed to Aberdeen, Mississippi, from Flint, Michigan, to bury his father, a Gospel Preacher, who had been killed in an automobile accident. His mother was not expected to live, so he stayed to be with her and take care of his younger sister. His mother’s health improved to the point that he had to get a job to remain in the area. Tom studied printing in high school (at the urging of a friend whose father taught the course) and fell in love with the industry, which led to an apprenticeship as a printer in Flint, Michigan, instead of college. With the help of an Elder from his father’s church and the support of his loving wife, Jean, he purchased a hand feed printing press and started Allmond Printing in October of 1957.

Merging With Technology…

Allmond Printing started in 1957 with a Chandler and Price press (which is still in operation today!) and a lot of craftsmanship by Tom and Jean Allmond. Several original customers are still satisfied clients today. Even though the technology has changed, the personal service has remained.

the life of the store

Meet our Store Mascots!

A few years back, we purchased a new, super-duper wide format HP Printer. We came in one morning and it wasn’t working, wouldn’t do anything, so we called the service guy. He came in and took off the cover, dug around a bit and said, “Hmmm, I’m afraid you have a mouse and it has done some pretty extensive damage.”

Pest control was called, traps were set, and poison put out, but we still had a mouse–obviously a smart mouse. Pest Control said, “We’ve done all we can do,” and someone recommended, “You should get a cat,” so a cat was brought in and she was an awesome hunter. We’ve had no issues since, so we love our cats.

Now the dogs, on the other hand, are just spoiled rotten pets, all 200 pounds of them.
